Stinging Fly Spring 2014 Issue

A flash fiction story of mine entitled Medulla of Hair has been accepted for the 2014 issue of the Stinging Fly.

Nuala Ní Chonchúir is guest editing fiction for that issue, and in her own words, this is what she was looking for:

‘As a reader I like sparky language, particular detail and the borderline quirky. I like stories about art, the body, cities, plus a whole lot more; I have a particular liking for historical fiction.

The Spring 2014 issue will feature a special Flash Fiction Showcase. I’m keen to receive short-short stories of up to 500 words. Send me the surreal and the prosaic; the honest and the conversational. Just have it open well, continue well, and end well.

I am also looking for longer stories, so let me read your best work. I look forward to reading your stories.’

I was very happy to receive that particular email. Read more about Nuala over on her blog (which is on the Irish Blog Awards 2013 Longlist, by the way).

I first came upon her work in 2007/2008 (roughly), stumbling upon a bilingual collection of poetry that she had published called Tattoo: Tatú. It’s well worth checking out – and because the two languages were Irish and English, I was thrilled to finally be able to read something in translation on both sides of the looking glass!

So, thanks Nuala.
